A Storm of Swords, George R.R. Martin, Cask and Quill bookmark

Okay, spoiler alert: I did NOT do well on my June TBR list. Like, not at all. And I’m totally fine with that. This past month was hectic and full of new things and a lot of my reading fell by the wayside. Not to mention I began the month with A Storm of Swords, which is quite a long book.

  1. Othello, William Shakespeare
  2. Under the Tuscan Sun, Frances Mayes
  3. A Storm of Swords, George R.R. Martin (finish)
  4. Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison
  5. White Trash, Nancy Isenberg (Part III)
  6. Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide, J.K. Rowling
  7. Norse Mythology, Neil Gaiman
  8. Outlander, Diana Gabaldon

Monthly Favorites

Well, not a lot to choose from here! And actually I really loved each one as much as the next. Not a bad one in the bunch! I really enjoyed the short book from Pottermore of J.K. Rowling’s writings about Hogwarts. I can’t wait to read the other two soon! A Storm of Swords may well be my favorite in the series so far. Though the first book of any series usually has a soft spot in my heart as the one that got me into it. I very much enjoyed it and can’t wait for the show to start up again in July now.

July 2017 TBR List:
  1. A Storm of Swords, George R.R. Martin (finish)
  2. Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies, by J.K. Rowling
  3. Under the Tuscan Sun, Frances Mayes
  4. Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare
  5. Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison
  6. Norse Mythology, Neil Gaiman
  7. Outlander, Diana Gabaldon

Well, since I didn’t do a whole lot of reading last month, I hope to get to a bit more this July. However, I know right now that that’s probably not going to happen because my birthday and the birthdays of some of my nearest and dearest are coming up in the next month or so, which will mean lots of celebrating. I love July for that reason, but it always flies by in an instant. Since this half of 2017 is already gone, I don’t think this July will be any different! That said, I’m still going to make an attempt at this somewhat modest TBR list, knowing that I probably won’t get to everything. But again, that’s totally fine! The break from reading obsessively has been nice and I can’t wait to get back to more reading in August.

One other reason I’m going to get less reading done in July is that I’m planning to get all of the previous seasons of Game of Thrones re-watched before the penultimate season begins mid-month. I’ve got the first two seasons down already, but it’s going to take some time to get the next four done. I’ve also got plenty more GoT content planned to share with you all as we approach the new season, one of which is Cask & Quill’s July’s Instagram challenge!

Cask & Quill Game of Thrones Instagram Book Challenge

That’s right, the theme for this month’s one-week challenge is Game of Thrones (how could it not be?!) and it will begin on July 1. Follow along on Instagram and post your photo responses using #QuillClub. Also feel free to tag or mention me in your captions @caskandquill. Remember, if your account is set to private, unfortunately your photos won’t show up under the hashtag. By the way, you might want to keep your eyes peeled for a giveaway at the end!

How did your reading go in June? What’s coming up in July that you’re excited about?
