Well folks, there’s only one month left in 2016. What kind of a reading year have you had? This was the first year in which I’ve taken the time to make reading goals. Not only has it made me a more productive reader, but it’s also enhanced my love of reading in a way I didn’t know was possible! I’ll talk more about it next month when the year is done, but I got started late this summer and I can’t wait to begin a fresh year of reading from the beginning. Even though I’ve already met my 2016 reading goal, I want to finish the year strong. Check out how I did on my November goals and see what’s coming up in December below!

My November To-Be-Read (TBR) List:

  1. Finish Crooked Kingdom, Leigh Bardugo
  2. The Fire Next Time, James Baldwin
  3. The Portable Veblen, Elizabeth Mackenzie
  4. The Cozy Life, Pia Edberg
  5. A selection of Marvel comics
  6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J.K. Rowling

This reading list was ever so slightly more realistic than my October list, but not by much.

Actual November Reads:

  1. Finished Crooked Kingdom, Leigh Bardugo
  2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J.K. Rowling
  3. We Should All be Feminists, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  4. Essay: “The Braindead Microphone,” George Saunders
  5. The Portable Veblen, Elizabeth Mackenzie
  6. The Fire Next Time, James Baldwin
  7. The Cozy Life, Pia Edberg

Hey! Would you look at that?! I finished almost everything on my list and the only thing I didn’t get to (selection of Marvel comics), I replaced with a couple of items that weren’t even on the original list. Even though I didn’t think my list was incredibly realistic, I was still able to get nearly all of it completed! This is way more than I would have read in a typical month without setting a reading goal.

This December, I’d like to keep things pretty realistic again. I know that I am going to have a lot to do with the holiday season and there are times I’m going to want to watch nostalgic movies and engage in crafting and wrapping, which will take away from the time I’ve been using to read. Nothing wrong with that!

My December TBR List:

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling
  2. Christmas at Thompson Hall & Other Christmas Stories, Anthony Trollope
  3. The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Malcolm X
  4. Spark Joy, Marie Kondo
  5. Begin, if not finish: White Trash, Nancy Isenberg

Short and sweet, but I’m very much looking forward to getting started!

The other day (and not for the first time) the thought occurred to me that I will never reach the end of my TBR list. It’s true! With each book I cross off the list, I add at least two more. There just isn’t any realistic way to finish reading everything I want to read and reread, no matter how long I’m at it. Now, this is simultaneously a sad and a happy thought. It’s a bummer that I won’t be able to get to everything I dream of, but how wonderful is it to know that I’ll never run short of material that I’m interested in?! Just a little food for thought.

How did you do on your reading list for November? What are you looking forward to in December?
