A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakepeare’s most well-known comedies. There’s magic, misunderstandings, fairies and tomfoolery to spare. Talk about ambiance! Perfect for a themed party! Well, you might have guessed by now that I decided to throw one together. Keep reading for photos and ideas for how you can host your very own midsummer party!
The food for your party should be light, fresh and simple. Think snacks rather than an actual formal meal. You want to create the lazy and luxurious feel of reclining and savoring the night away. Nuts, apricots and blackberries, figs, purple grapes, honey and cheese are all mentioned in the play. Wine is an absolute must if you are of age! This play takes place in Athens, so something Greek or Mediterranean would be perfect. Rose is perfect for this time of year. Anything light and fruity would do nicely. I also chose to have Bell’s Oberon beer on hand. How could we not! It’s a nice touch and a good option for those guests who might not enjoy wine, if you can get it in your area.
Fairy lights (duh), candles and light, flowy materials are great for creating a woodland fairy party. Butterflies would also be a nice touch. If you have a nice evening on your hands, it goes without saying that this party should be held outside. Bonus points if you can manage it in an actual garden or woodsy glen. Even if the best you can do is a small deck or patio, the fresh summer air will work wonders for your ambiance. Some flowers, lights and draped fabric will do the rest! If you’re stuck inside, open the windows and light a summery scented candle to help transport you and your guests.
It’s best to wear whatever in your closet says something closest to “ethereal.” We’re dealing with fairy royalty here, okay? Some wings would not go amiss. Think natural materials.
Enjoy your midsummer’s eve!
