This year has provided ample opportunity to celebrate the magic of the Harry Potter books and films. With the 20th anniversary of the release of the first book at the end of June, many Potter fans have been pausing this summer to reflect on what the wizarding world has meant to them through the years. And I’m no different! This summer has brought a lot of nostalgia, thinking back to when I first began reading the series after its release in the U.S. The Harry Potter series is one of those that you can return to time and again without wearing it out, but there is something particularly magical about the first read that sticks with you. It’s in that spirit that I’m currently rereading the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and, also, celebrating the fictional birthday of the title character today! His creator, J.K. Rowling, shares a birthday with one of the most well-known characters in the world. And it is to both that I raise a Hagrid-inspired cupcake in recognition of the magic they have brought into the lives of millions.
I am overwhelmed by the community that has been created around Harry Potter. Some of the kindest, smartest and most incredible people are fans. Through the Wizarding World Book Club held by Pottermore on Twitter I get to interact with many of these people on a weekly basis! I am convinced that Potterheads are some of the best people the world has to offer and we’d all do well to befriend more of them. 🙂
I chose to celebrate Harry’s birthday this year with cupcakes, because why not. Feel free to use these as inspiration for your own Harry Potter cupcakes, should you choose to make some! While you’re at it, why not wash down those treats with a bit of pumpkin juice?!
What ways has Harry Potter’s story affected your life?
